Well earned three points this evening - although the score suggests a convincing win, it didn't look that way until Bird scored Towns second 10mins into the second half...
The game started at pace with no team willing to give anything away. Cleeve fielding manager Sykes, and Assistant manager Rose, looked well prepared for a battle - and they did for the first 55mins. Town looked edgy clearing long at every opportunity, Cleeve trying to play where possible.
After 8mins, applied pressure on the Cleeve goal which led to Lee Smith bagging his first of three latching on to a loose ball and scoring from close range. Both benches were unimpressed with the majority of the Ref's decisions, complaining bitterly about the stop-start play. One of these gave Cleeve their chance, a great free kick by Sykes crossed to an unmarked Hoyle, who finished neatly in the 16min. Both teams huffed and puffed the remaining 30mins of the first half with Cleeve playing slightly better as the half ended.
Emery replaced Barnes at halftime, possibly because of Barnes first half clash with advertising boards. At 55mins Bird grabbed a deserved Town second goal with a fierce close range shot through a crowded box... And there the game changed. Cleeve pushed up and pinned Town in for a short period but it wasn't to last. On 70mins Lee Smith grabbed his second brilliantly blasting past a helpless home keeper after an unlucky bounce off a Cleeve's last defender.
Only 6mins later Smith popped again to fire in his third, a goal line tap into an empty net after a mess between defender and goalie. O'Sullivan then replaced Lee Smith and straight a swop, Smith for Archer at left back. Town comfortably ran out the remaining minutes finishing much the stronger, and having a number of half chances to increase the goal tally through Sommers and O'Sullivan.
All in all a good, no messing performance, with proof that a settled side can help us climb the division. North Leigh will be a test on Saturday as home advantage on a wicked slope really helps. The on to the one we've all been waiting for - home to Merthyr, and hopefully the biggest crowd at The Causeway this season

Good win and performance pitch was rubbish, agreed with settled team has been the main reason in the current run of good form we have got an outside chance of the playoffs now.greg Lewis had a good game as did Dave bird and dale evans but lee smith stood out 2 great goals then must be the easiest goal he would ever get for the hat-trick ,Lewis Sommers and him have a very good understanding well done all keep the run going lads

Fair does Big Maca, as predictions go ,that will take some beating . Whats your next shout at North Leigh. AT match last night ,thought that the Tactics were pretty good. Thought we looked in command for most of match and Alex Harris had very little to do ,which said it all.Grat hatrick for Smithy, lets hope he can carry on good form to next two matches.Birdy also had a very good game influencing proceedings from mid field and pleasing to see him hit the target with a hard drive.

The best place for Lee Smith in the current Town line-up is farther up the field than Lewis Sommers, and that's were he was last night...
I must admit that I've been a bit critical about Lee's input this season, that's maybe because I expect too much from him after watching many a glittering performance in a Tigers shirt from teenage years... He is very capable and fair dues to the management team, trusting in his ability. He should now go on and aim to get on the Southern League scorers list.
Box is right with his comments, we now look solid, albeit the slow starts at home. We were talking play-off's last night... it is very possible if we remain solid, but not probable unless the likes of Tiverton, Yate, Paulton, and Merthyr become inconsistent... Next Tuesday against Merthyr will be the gauge on how far we can go... Lets get the message out.
