Thought without Matt Barnes we didnt look to obvious with what we were going to do, with Barnes teams know that hes going to whip in a quality cross so set themselfs up to defend it, think when he comes back in, if he gets back in then he needs to mix his play up a bit, cut in more and run at them. I like Andy Lewis runs fron defence, everytime no one picked him up, no on expected it, with Greg and Dan also at centre back he knew he could go on those runs, worked a treat, still worried about the left side of our team, would Like to see Matt Smith come back in at some point. But overall very pleased.

Yep Macca and Box, Andy Lewis played very well, and become very consistant since his return from injury. Alex in his own words said, "other than the save at the end, I didn't really have a lot to do"
Can someone confirm the state of Steve Peters? There was talk that he has Pneumonia which can be very serious. Anyone have any news on The Gaffer?... I also understand that there was some football league scouts at the game last night.
I also heard a mumbling from the Merthyr fans about their boss trying to rotate the team and not picking the strongest team. I thought their right back looked very good especially in the first half, apparently he's not regular.
Great draw for us, and maybe in our own quest to climb the table, assist Merthyr in theirs by beating Poole and Hungerford in our last few home games of the season....

We had a really big change of form and consistency when we went 4-4-2 again and Lewis Sommers and lee smith up top works really well and the team is settled but them two have been the key as many supporters said last night

Just had a quick breeze through the Merthyr forum... Some are happy with the result as no goals were conceded. Most thought they should have done better as they dominated the game other than the last 10mins in the first half. And one bloke kept mentioning "The Slope"...
Well - if there is a slope on The Causeway, and certainly one that would affect play, please tell me where it is and I'll check it out on Saturday. I think Old Sod must have got on the sauce before the game, and confused last night with 1968 when we played each other in the cup, when The Causeway did have a slope - all 16' of it...
Joe Warren always said the slope was around 4" end to end, probably a touch more but that makes Maggots, Ciren, Chippenham, North Leigh, and many others a 'Black Run' as far as slopes go.

Slope? I bet he wasnt at the game! Wasn't at the game! For information Sunshine, I haven't missed a MTFC away game for over 5 years. Admittedly there is not a massive slope a la Chard, North Leigh, Paulton or others I can mention but you have to admit it does fall away a little and a Cinderford fan does agree with me on that and that Cinderford always seem to play better playing towards that end. As far as the game is concerned I don't think that you can argue that on pressure and chances an away win was more likelier than a home one and apart from 5 or 10 minutes in the first half and a few decent breakaways in the 2nd when we were really pushing for a winner it was mostly us. Anyway it was some fair entertainment on a very cold night and I look forward to renewing acquaintances on Easter Monday when no doubt, you'll be there.

Unfortunately I couldn't get to the game on Tuesday, but to correct everyone's opinion on "the slope" on our ground, I was involved in the Ground Levelling project and had a lot of dealings with the Architects who produced all the drawings. I can confirm that from one end to the other, their was enough fall to ensure that surface water would travel via the drainage to a collection sump in the corner where the players enter the playing area. To call it a sloping pitch is totally incorrect and obviously an optical illusion to some people. After removing a considerable slope to what is now almost a billiard table playing surface - and a very good playing surface I might add after a lot of money spent on improving the drainage, it's no wonder that Town fans get a bit "uppity" about comments. Mind you, all the supporters who remember the old pitch probably still refer to playing towards the Causeway Road end as playing "up the slope"!

All this talk of the slope reminds me of when I used to help run the reserve team and each team had to provide a linesman (as they were then called). I was the "volunteer" and to ensure I could do it properly sat the refs exam (and passed). What I should have done was got a lot fitter because running the top line was knackering. It's a good job we have a level pitch now because most of the lines men or Assistant Refs we get nowadays have a job to keep up on the level.

Ah hello, just found it funny when you said there is a slope, its probably one of the best playing surfaces in the league. As for the game a draw was a fair Result, our keeper had one save to make, a good save it was too. See you on Easter Monday

As BEV said its an optical illusion. The ground was levelled at great expense and the SLOPE is that recommended by the FA Grounds Dept in Yorkshire ie its virtually flat except for the slight gradient to allow run off. Hence we now have probably the best pitch in the league.Dont forget the old slope was an 18foot corner to corner slope. Still call it playing up the hill or vice versa.Cant wait for a 3 or 4g pitch.

If you can spot a slope on that pitch you're a better man than me.
As for the game Merthyr had plenty of the ball but didn't look threatening in attack at all, we relied on counter attacking but don't really have the pace up front to do that although we did have the best chances to grab a goal.
Great save from the keeper right at the end but that was his only save. Andy Lewis dominated at the back.
