Doesn't have to be the best player; just the player you enjoyed seeing every week. Although he was only at the causeway for a short time; I thought Chris Burns was a brilliant midfielder. He was nearly 40 and he wasn't the fittest, but he was a hard *******! He would sit in midfield and just pick up the pieces. He was player/manager so all the players looked up to him. It was a sad day when he decided to go and play football out in Spain.

No, it was Ian Brown who we signed from Berwick Rangers. Our Manager at the time, John Preece, found him a job down here and so he signed. Excellent player.

Only been watching the Town for a year so cant really say! Mine would be Ben John, quality keeper plus never knew if he was going to lose the plot or no.

Yeah, Ben John was a very good keeper. Maybe bev or Boxxon could help me with this. Who was our keeper about 7 or 8 years ago. He got player of the season. I believe his surname was Fisher. He was a brilliant keeper.

The goalkeeper was Andy Fisher. One of a long line of excellent keepers at the Town. Namely Ron McCluskey (1960's) who we signed from Gloucester City, the two Cinderford boys Ray Hook and Russ Bowles - both in my opinion the best goalkeepers EVER at the Club, and both joined us from Hilldene Athletic, a great little Cinderford Club formed in the sixties. Going back to Andy Fisher, I believe he was at Newport County in his youth, and I think we actually signed him from Yate Town. My favourite players - like Boxxon, having supported the Club for over 50 years, there are so many. I agree with Boxxon's selection, but I would also add Shaun Gallagher (central defender) from the sixties - he was quality. Let's not forget a couple of superb strikers who won us promotion to the Southern League - Tony Goodwin and Chris Hyde who both scored loads of goals in our Hellenic Championship season. Anothe striker deserving a mention would be Gloucester boy Colin "Percy" Peacey. A natural goalscorer who I believe got over 100 goals for Cinderford Town. And finally I would nominate our F A Cup Heroes from the mid nineties who got us to the Second Round proper and just missed out on a Third Round tie against Aston Villa. At this time we also had probably the quickest winger in football who unfortunately could outpace every defender but wasn't quite so good at scoring goals - namely Darren Campbell who switched to athletics and went on to win Olympic Gold For Gt Britain!

You should write a book Bev! It's great to read about some of our ex greats. Sadly I was just too young to remember our cup exploits in the mid 90s. All those players and Timmy Harris are Cinderford legends for what they achieved. I've heard a lot about Darren Campbell. When I first heard that he played for Cinderford! Is it true that he was really quick but shocking at football?

Hi Stu, barbados at the moment but was keeping a close eye on proceedings on Tuesday evening via this web site. Another all time great in my opinion was Keith Mortimer, who played left back ,left midfield and left wing in his 10 or so years at the causeway. Probably the best crosser of the ball, esp on corners and taker of freekicks that I can recall. Bev, what about Davey Collins from glos who scored a stack of goals incl in West Midland League, when we played the likes of Boston United Kidderminster Harriers Port Vale Reserves, Shrewsbury Res etc etc. What a league that was.Another great striker was Phil Mullen-brilliant, not so good as our manager tho.Re Strikers-,What about Eddie Bell, from Glos,Herbie Johnson and Tiger Grimshaw. Gotta go down to the bar now. See you soon.
